My major loyalty up until now has been with American Airlines. American has degraded their AAdvantage program over the past months so I've decided to move to Delta. The best way to move your loyalty to Delta is through a status match challenge. Delta has not made that easy though.
Getting a status match with any company other than Delta usually means signing up, showing your status with another company and they provide you status with the company you are moving to. Delta adds the extra step of making it a challenge as well meaning they temporarily give you the status you want for 3 months. During that time you need to fly a certain number of miles with them to make that status. Gold Medallion requires 12,500 Medallion Qualifying Miles (MQM) before the 90 days is out.
As I have just booked my flight to see family and some connecting flights for my trip to Africa/Middle East, this is the time to set up that challenge. Delta offers an easy signup online which is nice, since that doesn't require you to wait on the phone forever to get in contact with someone. It does require Delta's website to be working properly though... which it currently is not.
For days I've been attempting to make use of their link on the status match webpage.
As soon as you follow the link to submit your information, the webpage that comes up is a error webpage.
After calling them twice over this issue, I still cannot get the link to work, and I still can't sign up for the status match. The first time I called, I was routed to customer support in general. She also couldn't load the link internally so she passed me to online support. They couldn't load the link after a 20 minute wait... yet neither of these people filed a report to the website team to fix this.
I know this wasn't filed since I called the next day and asked the same question. This time a Gold Medallion customer agent tried to help me and mentioned that no one had complained about this issue before. She submitted a report to the IT team to fix this.
I then requested that she submit my status match over the phone... she can't do that. The only way they allow status match requests is through the link on the website. The link on the website is broken though... so I can't sign up through the phone, the website is broken and I fly in 2 weeks... So far the webpage still remains broken and no one seems to be taking action to fix it.
So is this broken accidentally, or are they limiting the number of people who can status match right now. I certainly hope they aren't limiting status matches, but Delta isn't the most transparent when it comes to changes like this, so who knows. Fingers crossed that this gets corrected quickly... so far it's been slow going.
